Artist's Statement
I am one of the
generation of artists who trained in the 1960s in
Iraq. For over thirty years I have tried to produce
works of art which give material form to my personal
and artistic views of the world around me. on one
level these may focus on local or national event,
drawn from the past or the present, but they also
posses a broader relevance within the contemporary,
international world.
My paintings are musical, symbolic and realistic.
This is not a direct and bare realism but a mixture
of the real within the symbolic and poetic world of
the canvas. It is, in other words, a kind of
personal symbolism, based on experience, and woven
in an apocalyptic way.
For me, a painting is a key to unlock the internal
world or the private sphere which would be
impenetrable otherwise.
I do not like to hide the keys to my soul's many
gates and I do not veil the thoughts which my inner
world is rich with.
My art is concerned with desire and loss, with
distance and nearness and with memories and hopes.
It is as such because I believe that it is a human
right to express yourself without the slightest
fear. Accordingly, one can be fully responsible for
one's soul and one's very own self.

بتول الفكيكي
أللاوعي يدفعني الى
أختيار الجسد كونه بيتأ للسعاده و الالم...
المكان يهيمن على جزء كبير من ذاتي لا يمكنني التخلي
عن جغرافية المكان والبشر و الميثوليجيا. ....الرموز... كلها
هي خزين الذاكره عن المكان
أغلب أعمالي تعتمد على الشكل وتأثيره على أعمالي كبير
أن الشكل هو الجسد والمضمون هو الروح..
ما قيمة الجسد بلا روح و أين الروح حين يختفي الجسد؟
ألجأ الى الرسم لنفض الالام .. و هكذا مع لحظات الفرح
حين تدفعني لأدون اللحظه وحفظ قوة تأثيرها.
لجأت الى عشتار و أستنطقت حالاتها تجليها عذاباتها
عسفها أوجاعها فرحها حزنها همومها.

و لدت في بغداد – العراق, و مقيمه في لندن- المملكه
